The SofCon admissions process is intentionally selective. As a gifted-aligned program with a strong emphasis on peer modeling, we are seeking families whose children are not only bright and curious, but emotionally and socially ready to contribute to a collaborative, mixed-age learning environment where older students lead by example. While we deeply honor every child’s journey, SofCon is not designed as a behavioral intervention or corrective environment.
Admissions begins with a family application and a parent-only interview. If the conversation reflects strong alignment, we’ll follow up with a child visit to observe comfort, curiosity, and group readiness.
Our admissions process begins with a dedicated conversation just for parents or guardians. This meeting gives us a window into your home life, parenting approach, and how your child is currently engaging with learning and social development. It’s also a chance for you to get a feel for how SofCon approaches education—not just as academics, but as a shared family journey rooted in curiosity, consciousness, and community.
We’re interested in how your child spends their days, how your family navigates boundaries and emotions, and what kind of learning environment brings out your child’s best. We’ll ask about screen time, time outdoors, how your child responds to challenge, and how they relate to peers, especially younger or older ones, since mixed-age learning is a core part of our model. You’ll also be invited to share your hopes, concerns, and what you’re looking for in a school experience.
This is a conversation, not an evaluation. We’re simply looking for alignment, mutual respect, and the kind of parenting mindset that helps conscious communities thrive.
If it feels like a strong fit, we’ll follow up with a gentle, play-based visit with your child.
After the parent conversation, the next step is a one-on-one visit with your child in a calm, welcoming environment. This time together is not about testing or performance. Instead, we observe how your child engages: how they explore new materials, respond to unfamiliar settings, and interact with the people around them. We approach this visit with warmth, curiosity, and respect for each child's natural pace.
During the visit, we pay attention to how your child plays, communicates, adapts to gentle redirection, and handles moments of uncertainty or challenge. Some children jump right in; others observe before participating. Both are welcome. What we’re looking for is presence, openness, and signs that your child is ready to participate in a relational learning environment where collaboration, emotional growth, and self-direction are part of the daily rhythm.
SofCon brings together children of different ages, and part of what makes our community work is the way kids learn from and support one another. This visit helps us understand how your child might contribute to and benefit from that kind of setting—not just academically, but socially and energetically. It’s about getting to know your child as a whole human, and making sure we can meet their needs in a way that feels good for everyone involved.
If it feels like a mutual fit after the parent conversation and child visit, we will formally invite your family to join SofCon. At that point, we will provide a full enrollment packet, including our family agreement, tuition schedule, parent handbook, and various waivers.
Our first official year begins this August, and as a growing organization, we’re still in the process of shaping many of our documents and systems. Because of this, we welcome your questions, suggestions, and support as we refine everything.
Families who join now are stepping into the foundational phase of SofCon, and your input will help shape how this community grows. We also expect to hold a few orientation gatherings over the summer, giving enrolled families a chance to meet, connect, and begin building the relationships that will carry us into the school year.
